Modelling Annular Micromixers
نویسندگان
چکیده
Magnetohydrodynamic mixing of two fluids in an annular microchannel is modelled as a twodimensional, laminar, convection-diffusion problem, and examined using asymptotic analysis and numerical simulation. The time T required for mixing of a plug of solute depends on the Peclét number Pe, and on the geometry of the annulus. Three scaling regimes are identified: purely diffusive, Taylordispersive, and convection-dominated; each with a characteristic power-law dependence of T upon Pe. Consequences of these results for optimal micromixer design are discussed.

Mathematical modelling of an annular photocatalytic reactor for methylene blue degradation under UV light irradiation using rGO-ZnO hybrid
The application of heterogeneous photocatalysis in industrial scale has been hindered by a lack of simple mathematical models that can be easily applied to reactor design and scale-up. This work intends to use a simple mathematical model for predicting methylene blue (MB) degradation in a slurry-annular photocatalytic reactor using zinc oxide (ZnO) hybridized with reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-Z...
متن کاملMicromixers — a review
This review reports the progress on the recent development of micromixers. The review first presents the different micromixer types and designs. Micromixers in this review are categorized as passive micromixers and active micromixers. Due to the simple fabrication technology and the easy implementation in a complex microfluidic system, passive micromixers will be the focus of this review. Next,...
متن کاملMicropumps, microvalves, and micromixers within PCR microfluidic chips: Advances and trends.
This review surveys the advances of microvalves, micropumps, and micromixers within PCR microfluidic chips over the past ten years. First, the types of microvalves in PCR chips are discussed, including active and passive microvalves. The active microvalves are subdivided into mechanical (thermopneumatic and shape memory alloy), non-mechanical (hydrogel, sol-gel, paraffin, and ice), and external...
متن کاملEvaluation of Floor-grooved Micromixers using Concentration-channel Length Profiles
We evaluated the dynamic micromixing performances in slanted groove micromixers (SGM) and staggered herringbone micromixers (SHM) and quantitatively compared their differences using concentration vs. channel length profiles obtained from numerical stimulations. It is found that faster and finer mixing took place in the SHM and the chaotic mixing was more effective at locations closer to the gro...
متن کاملA flexible layout design method for passive micromixers.
This paper discusses a flexible layout design method of passive micromixers based on the topology optimization of fluidic flows. Being different from the trial and error method, this method obtains the detailed layout of a passive micromixer according to the desired mixing performance by solving a topology optimization problem. Therefore, the dependence on the experience of the designer is weak...
